Time and the Way We Travel

I'm going to be doing The Sketchbook Project!  (Thanks to a certain person for telling me about it!) I got my sketchbook in the post this week all the way from Brooklyn!  I know, I know - this whole project thing sounds a bit gimmicky.  Sometimes in life you just need a bit of gimmicky.  Paying 20 quid for a substandard sketchbook is a fair bit, but I think it'll be a motivating factor in making me fill it up!  I need to have it done by April next year so pleeeeenty of time, right? I chose 'time and the way we travel' for my theme - which really does seem quite apt as in the next year I'm going to be doing a fair bit of travelling, and, oh yeah, I'm going to move country for a year.  But more on that later! Just focussing on getting the next few weeks out of the way first.  Anyone else out there doing the project??

It's been a busy week...

Having soup at the beach with my parents in the rain!  Happy times.

Everyone comes out in the rain it seems...

And Mexican catch ups! This happens every single time we go there!!

Big Old Birthdays...

Turns out my mum's next birthday is her 60th and my dad's next birthday is his 70th - so I've gotta get working on some big presents!!!!!!!  Started on a little something for my mum as hers is coming up first... Only got a sneak peak as I'm pretty sure she's one of maybe three people that read my blog hahaaa :)

Beni Baby!

Spent the last week or so travelling with the Girl on the Pink Bike and friends.  Headed to the Benicassim festival and then onto Valencia too.  I'm not really sure if these pictures will make much sense to the big world out there, but to me these pretty much sum up the trip and most of the weird stuff that happened to us!

Stayed in a beautiful apartment with an amazing view.

Spent most of the daytime doing nothing.
By which I mean drinking, eating, beaching and generally lazing about.
Awesomeness.

And at night time the craziness started!

Experimented with ways of sneaking cold alcohol into the festival, and found out just how wasted some of the people were when we got there.

Nice bit of drawing by the Schmanderson.  Plan B were amazing.

Festival security...

Brits abroad definitely know how to complain when a bus gets lost.
Unfortunately, they don't know how to complain in a way that gets results...

I loved the festival atmosphere, bubbles every night.

Cooking code-words. The Girl on the Pink Bike has mad cooking skills.

This seemed to be a catchphrase for the trip.  Kieran has mad disappearing skills.

Eventful bus ride home, we sure know how to make friends. (Get a beard!!)

The Girl on the Pink Bike and I discovered that we are some sort of delicacy to mosquitoes... argh still itchy!

Pants optional:

One guy using his life guard shirt to maximum effect.

And then back to Valencia for me while everyone else moved on.  Stayed to do some drawing, discovered that if you sit in the same place for more than 20 minutes, Spanish men will talk to you.

This particular Spanish man being one of the many.  No me gusta!

Going awaaaay!

Going off on my holidays! Rocking it up in Benicassim with some good friends.  See you in 10 days when I should have some more airport drawings (which pop up here every six months or so haha!) pub drawings and hopefully some Something Else drawings too! I'm so excited! No idea what I'm going to be doing for the next few days and I can't wait to find out!!!!!

Holes Sketchbook 2005

Tidying up my stuff, I found a sketchbook from 2005! I forgot just how awesome it is.  I made it all in one night listening to late night XFM and thinking about space... aah those were the days...

Slightly sozzled in Sidcup

Some pub conversations are better left unheard:

Dog motorboating - hot or not?

Apparently Sidcup votes HOT. Eeeh.

People watching..

Drinking hot chocolate outside, watching people on the sunniest and stormiest day.

This is one from last weekend.  More drawing has been put on hold for at least another two weeks, and then I'm having a holiday so there should be plenty after that! Woohoo! :)

Chickies

While on placement, we had chicks and ducks as part of the Easter theme.  There was one chick that was always falling over.  He was my favourite.  Didn't last very long though poor fella.

Happy Father's Day Daddy-o!

Even though my dad is feeling pretty ill this week, he still spent the whole day today under my brother's car and mine, fixing it in the thunder, rain and hail (I kid you not).  My dad is amazing.  Even though I'm way too old to be living at home, I feel so privileged to be able to spend this time with my parents.

The orange thing is his glasses case.  He always gets a crazily orange coloured one because he's always leaving his glasses case on top of cars and all the other colours just blend in! Here's his car fixing kit: sheet of old cardboard to lie on, pipe for leverage for EVERYTHING, old rag, shovel - always handy for something, and at least two cups of tea (not necessarily still hot), and of course, my embarrassingly girly car key keyring, which I'm pretty sure he likes really.

And the robin... well, he always seems to have a robin friend around him wherever he goes...  Happy Father's Day Daddy-o! :)

Edit: Oops, forgot to put on the gaffa tape and WD-40, must rectify in the morning...

Saturday 11 June 2011

The countdown has begun!

I can't work at all today.  Two weeks till my placement is finished! Can't wait!!!!!!
Yes, I have used 5 exclamation marks.  I am so damn excited!

Work!

I just read this in Seth Godin's blog and I'm really finding it motivating!

"If you're going to work...work hard.
That way, you'll have something to show for it.
The biggest waste is to do that thing you call work, but to interrupt it, compromise it, cheat it and still call it work.
In the same amount of time you can expend twice the effort and get far more in exchange."

Just a shame that I had to find it by reading his blog while in the middle of doing my own work...Gaaah!

WTF?

Today I saw a series of WTF? posters by Minga on Visual News which I love! Really made me think of my favourite t-shirt from when I was about 7 years old.  Dug it out today and it still fits! More like a tank top than a t-shirt now though.

Still missing drawing. Maybe soon I'll get the time to do some... Maybe I'll draw me some sharks... Maybe I'll wear my shark t-shirt while doing it! Maybe maybe maybe...
